Building bridges between people, cities and innovation ecosystems for lasting impact
Better funding and networking opportunities begin here
For over 30 years, the Baltic Institute of Finland has brought people, cities and ideas together – turning cooperation into innovation and funding into lasting impact. From Tampere to Europe, we launch high-impact projects, secure significant EU funding and build powerful networks that deliver real change for sustainable cities and thriving communities.
Start locally – secure funding effectively – network internationally
As a City of Tampere in-house entity, the Baltic Institute of Finland provides expert support in EU project development and international cooperation for the City of Tampere and its affiliated organizations.
We specialize in initiating, designing and managing international projects, particularly within the Baltic Sea region and across Europe. Our services include project coordination, funding expertise and strategic partnership building.
Key focus areas include sustainable urban development, smart city solutions and innovation and RDI collaboration.
We also organize events and forums to promote regional cooperation and share best practices.

Our values and vision
At the Baltic Institute of Finland, we believe that cooperation changes the world. Our mission is to promote sustainable growth, innovation and internationalization through European collaboration – strengthening the competitiveness of the entire Baltic Sea region in line with the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.
From our home in Tampere, we connect needs, experts and opportunities, turning them into impactful projects that deliver real results. We are a trusted and approachable partner, enabling collaboration across borders and fostering a spirit of openness. Our vision is clear: to be the leading force in impactful European project cooperation, building a smarter, greener and more connected future.
