30 September – 1 October 2026, the City Blues project partners, experts and city representatives gathered in Berlin for the project’s final event From City Blues to Blue-Green Futures. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the project’s achievements and discuss how cities can better integrate nature-based solutions into urban environments.

A key takeaway from the discussions was the need for place-based approaches. While nature-based solutions offer significant potential for managing stormwater and improving urban resilience, successful implementation depends on local conditions, existing infrastructure and the specific needs of each city.
Participants also highlighted the importance of planning at the catchment level and bringing together different stakeholders, from urban planners and stormwater experts to landowners and maintenance teams. Strong collaboration is essential for creating lasting blue-green transformations in cities.
The event concluded with an encouraging message for the future: cities do not have to work alone. Continued cooperation, knowledge exchange and new EU funding opportunities can help support further action on water management, climate adaptation, biodiversity and sustainable urban development.
The Baltic Institute of Finland has supported the city of Tampere in preparing and implementing the City Blues project.
